The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly asked the American president, Joe Bidennot to impose sanctions on the Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovichon the grounds that the tycoon may prove to be important as an intermediary link with Russia in the negotiations, reveals the Wall Street Journal.
According to the report, after the decision by the US to impose sanctions on Russian oligarchs, because of war in Ukrainewhen it came time to announce the White House National Security Council told the Treasury Department to stop.
The reason; Zelensky advised Biden in a recent telephone conversation to delay imposing sanctions on the oligarch, as the latter could prove important as an intermediary with Russia to help in the peace negotiations, according to people familiar with the phone call.
