Android has several default live wallpapers from Google. The choice is very scarce, so lovers of such screensavers usually use third-party applications. Wallpaper Engine, a popular Windows utility that lets you create animated wallpapers, may soon be joining them. Its developers reported that they are currently developing a corresponding application for Android.
With Wallpaper Engine, you can create 2D and 3D live wallpapers from video, audio, web content and some 3D applications, or choose from a collection created by the community on Steam Workshop. Through the built-in editor, you can edit the wallpaper, make changes to the animation, add effects, and so on.
The feature set in the Android app will be just as extensive. Dynamic live wallpapers can be customized to your liking, it will also be possible to limit FPS to save battery power on your smartphone or tablet. Users will have a tool to convert pre-made wallpapers created in Wallpaper Engine for Windows and the ability to connect to the Steam Workshop collection using a wireless PC connection.
Wallpaper Engine for mobile is tentatively due in October or November. It is currently in internal beta testing and may take a little longer if there are any issues. The app will be free, but in order to take full advantage of all its features, you will have to purchase the program on Steam.
