American retail giant Walmart announced the launch of two metaverse projects – Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play – on the Roblox gaming platform.
Walmart Land will feature a virtual avatar store, as well as tokens and badges that can be earned through activities. Walmart’s Universe of Play will be dedicated to children’s toys. The Roblox community will be able to explore Walmart’s virtual worlds to earn coins, or complete quests to earn various prizes.
The online gaming platform Roblox has gained a lot of popularity among the younger generation of gamers. The company’s website states that as of June 30, Roblox has 52.2 million daily active users and 12 million content creators, with 11.3 billion hours played.
According to Walmart US marketing director William White, the company’s customers spend a lot of time on Roblox. This platform is growing and developing rapidly, so the choice fell on it. Now the company is focused on creating new experiences for its customers.
Earlier, the South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung said it wants to introduce the younger generation to its history and products through an interactive world inside the Roblox metaverse. Earlier this year, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) reported that Walmart was preparing to enter the NFT market as well as launch its own cryptocurrency.
