Walmart, which operates the world’s largest wholesale and retail chain, is looking for a head of crypto-related product development.
According to the Walmart job page, one of the tasks of the head of cryptocurrency products is to identify the need for certain technology solutions and trends among customers. The vacancy also implies the calculation of the necessary investments for the development of the current projects of the company.
The specialist’s responsibilities will include managing the retail giant’s digital currency strategy and finding new partners in the cryptocurrency space. The head of cryptocurrency products will be based at Walmart’s Bentonville office.
In August 2019, the company applied for a patent for a cryptocurrency that bears some similarities to the Diem (at that time – Libra) crypto asset developed by Facebook.
Walmart has also experimented with blockchain for non-financial purposes like tracking drugs and food in the supply chain. In addition, Walmart has patented a blockchain-based drone communication system and joined the Hyperledger consortium last year.
More and more large companies, especially in the field of trade, are seeking to hire specialists in cryptocurrencies and blockchain. Earlier this year, Amazon said it was looking for engineers and software developers to project digital and evolving payments. A vacancy at the Mexico branch mentions digital currency development.
