War aid to Ukraine is limited in quality and sophistication, says expert

At the end of the eighth day of fighting in Ukraine, Russian troops continue to internalize the conflicts as they approach the capital, Kiev. In an interview with CNNinternational security expert Salvador Raza said that international aid with weapons donations is not enough to stop the offensive by Vladimir Putin’s army.

“Even if NATO [Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte] and others [aliados] manage to send weapons, it will be limited, both in quality and in sophistication, to face the Russian army, which is growing”, he evaluated.

Since the first day of the invasion, last Thursday (24), the Ukrainian military – and even civilians – have been fighting in an attempt to prevent the capital from being taken by the Russians. In the face of resistance, experts analyze that Russian forces are intensifying their forces.

“When we say ‘Russia is escalating the conflict’, what we observe is that it is escalating towards the same strategy. It doesn’t look like she’s using much more sophisticated or powerful weapons, which she has, or enlarging the area,” Raza explained.

Despite Ukrainian resistance, the Russian army is superior. While at the beginning of the war, Russia had 840,000 active soldiers, Ukraine had 219,000. Regarding combat aircraft, there were 1,212 Russians against 170 Ukrainians.

Faced with the current scenario, the security expert said that at this moment it is important for the Ukrainians “not to let Russia have air superiority, because if it really conquers airspace, then there is no other way”.
