An intense shootout between bandits from the Red Command (CV) and the Third Pure Command (TCP), which are rival factions in RJ, left at least five people shot in Barros Filho, in North zone of the city. Among the victims are a 7-year-old child and a 14-year-old teenager.
According to some reports, the shooting began after drug traffickers from Comando Vermelho tried to invade Morro do Chaves, which is dominated by the Third Comando Puro.
According to the Military Police, the five people shot were admitted to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in Costa Barros.
The Municipal Health Department reported that the victims who were admitted to the UPA were:
– A 7-year-old boy, who was transferred in stable condition to the Albert Schweitzer Municipal Hospital and is in the operating room
– A 14-year-old teenager, who was transferred to the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital in serious condition and is also in the surgical center
– An 18-year-old man, who was transferred to Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital in stable condition
– A 60-year-old man, who was transferred to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital and is in the surgical center
– An 18-year-old man, who was transferred to the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital
Police officers from the 41st BPM (Irajá) and the 9th BPM (Rocha Miranda) were deployed to the region. Civil Police officers also went to the scene. The PM reported that they seized a 5.56 caliber rifle in the Fazenda location.
After the shooting, some people set fire to pieces of wood and the side lane of Avenida Brasil, near Coelho Neto, towards the West Zone, was closed. Firefighters and city hall agents were called.
According to the Military Police, policing has been intensified in the region.
