“War” between Russia and Disney for a film starring a homosexual character

Its communications regulator Russia Roskomnadzor warned Walt disney for distributing content of one of her films, which -as she says- is harmful to the children of the country. This is the short film “Out”, starring a gay character.

Roskomnadzor said it had sent a letter to Disney stating that It is against Russian law to distribute information that “denies family values and promotes non-traditional sexual relations” to children.

“Out” was released last year at Disney + in the US. The production company has not yet responded to a request to comment, as reported by APE-MPE.

Same-sex relationships are legal in Russia, but a 2013 law prohibits the spread of “non-traditional sexual propaganda” among young Russians.

Human rights organizations have condemned the legislation, stressing that it helps to develop social hostility towards homosexuality.
