Clinical treatment capacity in the war-torn Gaza Strip has fallen by 70% as Israeli bombing destroyed most medical facilities, Gaza health authorities said on Tuesday.
The Health Ministry said many patients in the Gaza Strip who cannot find beds now have to rely on field hospitals with limited medical service capabilities for treatment.
According to statistics from the World Health Organization, since the outbreak of the current conflict between Israel and Hamas, the Israeli army has carried out 476 attacks on medical facilities in the Gaza Strip, killing 727 people and injuring another 933 in these locations as of June 7.
Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, condemned Israeli attacks on medical personnel and facilities in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday at a press conference and expressed grave concern about the escalating health crisis there.
“The World Health Organization says it remains concerned about the escalating health crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the West Bank, where attacks on health infrastructure and increased restrictions on movement obstruct access to health care,” he said .
Meanwhile, malnutrition threatened the lives of 3,500 children in the Gaza Strip, Hamas’ media office said in a press release on Tuesday.
“Hunger is accelerating in the Gaza Strip and 3,500 children are at risk of death due to malnutrition and the lack of nutritional supplements and vaccines, who are banned from entering the enclave,” the statement said.
The statement stated that “Israel and the US administration are leading” in blocking the entry of aid and goods to the Palestinian people.
On the same day, Gaza health authorities stated in a press release that the Palestinian death toll from the ongoing conflict had risen to 37,372, with 85,452 others injured.
The Israel Defense Forces said on Tuesday that operational activity continues in the central and southern Gaza Strip, where troops have located large quantities of weaponry.
Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in retaliation for Hamas’ attack on Israel’s southern border on October 7, 2023, during which around 1,200 people were killed and around 250 taken hostage.
