War in Ukraine: 130 Ukrainian prisoners returned home

A total of 130 Ukrainians captives war they were released and returned home in a “big easter swap”a high-ranking official of the Ukrainian presidency said today.

Ukrainian and Russian forces have regularly exchanged prisoners since Moscow’s offensive began, now in its 14th month.

“We are bringing back 130 of our people. (The exchange) has been taking place in several phases over the past few days.”, Andriy Germak, chief of staff to President Volodymyr Zelensky, said in a Telegram post. It was not clear how many Russians returned to their own homeland.

Germak said those repatriated included soldiers, border guards, members of the national guard, sailors and border service workers.

It was the second major prisoner exchange in the past week. On Monday, Russia and Ukraine announced that they had carried out a major prisoner exchange with 106 Russians and 100 Ukrainians being released. Ukraine announced on Friday that it had brought back 82 dead soldiers from Russian-held territory.
