The USA announced yesterday Thursday that they have information according to which a third American citizen is ignored in Ukrainewhile adding that they have not yet contacted Russia for the fate of two Americans believed to be being held captive after they went to Ukraine to fight against Russian forces.

“We have not yet reported the matter to the Russian Federation (…). .

Alexander Drueke, 39, and Andy Tai Nokhai, 27, of Alabama went voluntarily to Ukraine to fight against the Russian army. They have been missing for more than a week and there are fears that they are being held captiveas stated by their family members and American MPs.

The U.S. military says the two men have served in the ranks in the past, but gave no further details on their whereabouts.

THE White House has announced that he is “working very hard to learn more” about the two men.

“There are reports of another American whose fate is being ignored (…) From what we know this man traveled to Ukraine to fightPrice added, explaining that the third American has been missing for a few weeks.

The United States has also called on Russia to consider any American volunteer fighter captured in Ukraine a prisoner of war and to provide appropriate treatment.

«The Russians have some obligations “Members of the Ukrainian armed forces, including volunteers who may be from third countries and have joined the armed forces, should be treated as prisoners of war under the Geneva Conventions,” Price said.

Prisoners of war must “have the treatment and protection provided by their regime,” he added.

The Geneva Conventions define the rights of prisoners of war and in particular prohibit torture and ensure their access to medical care.

Under George W. Bush (2001-2009), the United States reacted by labeling its prisoners of war “enemy fighters” rather than prisoners of war, bypassing the Geneva Conventions.
