War in Ukraine: At least 109,000 citizens of other countries have fled after the Russian invasion

Since the start of the war, more than 2.2 million people, including 109,000 third-country nationals, have fled Ukraine. The International Organization for Migration works with states, embassies, border authorities and government partners to ensure that such citizens can return home from neighboring countries. Among the Tunisians were three adults and a two-year-old boy who spent five days hiding in their basement in Kyiv, Ukraine, before leaving the country.

In addition to support for returns, pre-departure medical assistance, food, tests for COVID-19, personal protective equipment and much-needed ground transfer to departure points are provided, as broadcast by ERT.

In some cases, the Agency’s staff, according to the same announcement, is reinforced in the destination countries to assist both arrivals organized by the IOM and those coordinated by individual states.

It also emphasizes that third-country nationals have experienced discrimination and xenophobic attacks during their travels, has therefore optimized referral mechanisms with government authorities and has set up a network of Hotlines in Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Lithuania all those who were forced to leave Ukraine.
