War in Ukraine: Berlin has no energy alternatives to disengage from Russian gas

The Russian ambassador to Germany, Sergei Netsayev, in an interview appeared convinced that Germany’s plan to find other sources of energy than the Russian natural gas is not sustainable, while he made special reference to the citizens of the country who see the price increases in their pocket and understand, always according to his own assessment, that the sanctions of the West against Russia it is not to their advantage.

There are no real alternatives

“So far there are no real alternatives to the pipeline gas, because liquefied natural gas requires a lot of preparation, including the construction of the necessary infrastructure and terminals, which do not exist now. “The German economy is now trying to find some additional ‘energy sources’, but it is clear that so far there is no real alternative to Russian gas, which is cheaper, more reliable and has the necessary infrastructure to supply it,” he said. in an interview with Sergei Netsayev on RBC.

Citizens are wary of sanctions

According to the Russian diplomat, people in Germany are wary of the West’s collective action against Russia in the energy sector. “All of this has a negative impact on people. Germany is switching to green energy, renewable energy, denies nuclear power and plans to get rid of coal. “Thus, gas is practically the only source of energy for households and the economy, in order to maintain the current rates of economic growth and to ensure social protection and energy security,” he said, adding that the debate on reducing Russian supplies gas or oil prices are leading to rising prices in the country.

“And now, when gasoline prices exceed two euros per liter, ordinary people, of course, understand what is happening. “And they do not show understanding.”
