Bulgarian employers can offer up to 200,000 jobs in Ukrainians citizens seeking safe haven in Bulgariatold the Bulgarian news agency BTA President of the Bulgarian Association of Industrialists (BIA) Dobri Mitrev.
Mitrev said there was almost no sector in which Ukrainian citizens could not find work, citing tourism, engineering and transport as examples.
The BIA currently holds the rotating presidency of the Association of Bulgarian Employers’ Organizations (AOBE).

He mentioned the large Bulgarian diaspora in Ukraine which, according to him, could quickly become part of the Bulgarian economy.
Employers and the Bulgarian government are discussing the possibility of adding job search data to the information portal opened by the latter to help those leaving Ukraine.
THE Bulgaria has lost much of its workforce in recent years due to pandemics and immigration to Western Europe. The demographic crisis has forced the country to look for staff and offer jobs to thousands, why not to those who escaped the war, Mitrev said.
He stressed that employers are taking the necessary measures to facilitate employment for Ukrainian citizens.
Mitrev said employers were preparing their positions on how Ukrainians seeking refuge in Bulgaria would be put into practice.
The employers will guarantee employment, but social conditions, healthcare and education for those arriving in Bulgaria are the responsibility of the state, stressed Mitrev. He cited the Bulgarian government’s online information portal as the first step in helping those fleeing Ukraine and the number of asylum seekers in Bulgaria. The next step, according to him, is a discussion on social conditions, living conditions and jobs.
Together with the State Employment Service, companies will submit proposals to the government, adding to the platform the possibility for employers to search for data on people with a profile that corresponds to their training and professional needs.
Employers are also updating their proposals for amendments to the Immigration and Labor Mobility Act and the Aliens Act, but will need to be evaluated in the context of pan-European decisions, Mitrev said.
According to the president of the BIA, there are no obvious proposals for measures to protect the economy at European Union (EU) level.
The European Commission has no proposals for resolving the issue of gas supply and leaves each country to take care of it on its own.
“If Bulgaria is unable to prepay for its gas supplies due to sanctions and Russia’s withdrawal from the SWIFT system, Russia is expected to end its deliveries to Bulgaria,” Mitrev said. He emphasized that the decision was not a signal of a formal antitrust inquiry into Bulgaria, but said that it was important for Russia to “keep up the good content”.
It is not clear how and from where European companies will procure the raw materials and supplies that are currently imported from Ukraine and Russia and are vital to them.
Employers will propose the establishment of green corridors for the transport of such goods, Mitrev said, but he is not optimistic that this can be achieved without negotiations and consensus between the EU and Russia.
Mitrev said the compensatory measures at the national level are important and recalled the request of employers to continue the compensation for electricity bills as long as electricity prices remain at current high levels and conditions are uncertain.
“Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine today are the only hope for business and all reasonable people in the 21st century,” Mitrev said, adding that negotiations were the only way to save the world from war.
According to Mitrev, if the situation does not escalate quickly and diplomatic solutions are not found, people can expect serious consequences for socio-economic life, including inflation.
The cost of military action will be paid by innocent people – the citizens of Ukraine, Russia, Bulgaria and the entire EU -, he noted.
