Effort for the sending of specialized equipment, for the protection of the war correspondents of the Greek media located in Ukraine In order to cover the events, ESIEA started and expressed its gratitude to the Minister of Civil Protection, Takis Theodorikakos, for his contribution to the sending of the equipment.
The Ministry of Civil Protection instructed the police of the embassy and consulates to supply the journalists with means of protection, while yesterday they went to Ukraine and four police officers from Greece who will provide any assistance and protection needed in the Greek diplomatic mission and transferred in addition Bulletproof vests, helmets and other specialized equipment for the protection of Greek journalists and technicians in war zones.
ESIEA emphasizes its indignation at the fact that some journalists do not have protective equipment “Under the responsibility of the employer”, something, however, that was covered by Greek police.
ESIEA in its announcement states:
“From the very beginning, Greek journalists and technicians cover with self-sacrifice and in life-threatening conditions, the events in the war zones and inform the Greek public about the developments of the Russian invasion on Ukrainian territory.
Indignant, the Board of Directors of ESIEA found that some colleagues do not have basic protective equipment under the responsibility of the employer. THE ΕΣΗΕΑ launched a difficult effort to find bulletproof vests and protective helmets available.
The Board of ESIEA thanks the Minister of Citizen Protection Mr. Taki Theodorikako for its contribution, in order for the Ministry to provide specialized equipment for the protection of the war correspondents of the Greek media.
The first shipments of the protective material started on February 24, 2022 and ways are being sought in order to reach all the colleagues who are in the war zone.
The Foreign Ministry assured the safe exit of journalists and technicians from the area, whenever deemed necessary.
The Board is in constant communication with the journalists who are on the front lines of the war, who are exposed to great danger for the performance of their function “.
