Via Telegram, Ramzan Kadyrov reported that after the strikes in Kherson “rescue operations have been completed” and now has “the final tally” of the attack, which is “23 soldiers dead and 58 wounded”.
The leader of Chechnya, a predominantly Muslim region of the Russian Federation, describes himself as a soldier of Vladimir Putin and says he has sent thousands of his fighters to Ukraine.
“Yes, our losses were great, but the Chechens are taking part in the jihad and if their fate is to fall in the holy war, it is an honor and a great joy for every true Muslim,” he said.
He also said that Chechen forces launched a retaliatory operation and killed some 70 Ukrainian soldiers.
Ukrainian officers have said between 30 and 100 more Chechen fighters were killed in artillery strikes on a school where they were camped.
