War in Ukraine: Damage to gas pipeline and power grid from attacks in Belgorod

The overnight bombings in the Belgorod region on Russia’s border with Ukraine had the effect of causing damage to a gas pipeline and the electricity networkas well as in a residence in the village of Spontariusino, the governor of the region said on Sunday.

“The most important thing is that there are no victims”Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

Reuters was unable to independently cross-reference these reports.

The Belgorod region is one of many in the south Russia where targets such as fuel and ammunition depots have been rocked by explosions since Moscow invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Kiev has almost never publicly claimed responsibility for attacks inside Russia and on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine but has recently said that the destruction of infrastructure is part of the preparation for the ground offensive it is planning.
