Speaking to reporters in New York, Mr Borrell said the 27 had taken the political decision to impose new sectoral and individual sanctions, which would have an impact on the economy. The Foreign Ministers also agreed to continue the supply of weapons to the armed forces of Ukraine, he added.
Mr Borrell made the announcement after an extraordinary informal council of European Union foreign ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, during which a statement was adopted “strongly condemning Russia’s latest escalation”.
“We will continue to increase our military aid (including to Ukraine) and we will study new restrictive measures” against Russia, added the High Representative and vice-president of the European Commission.
