Emotional moments on German television when an interpreter of the German newspaper Welt burst into tears while translating live the speech of the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky for developments in war in Ukraine.
The woman is heard choking on her tears as she tries to translate Zelensky’s speech to the German public.
“Russia is on the path of evil, Russia must lose its voice in the UN,” the woman was quoted as saying by the president. “We know Ukraine for sure,” she said before her voice was heard in the air, crying and for a moment she could not continue.
Then the translator is heard taking a breath to try to calm down, before saying “sorry”. The translator took a break according to the Telegraph, and then completed the last part of the sentence, when Zelensky said, “what we are defending”.
Zelensky’s fiery speech
Zelensky addressed the Ukrainian people on the morning of Sunday 27/2, after major cities in Ukraine came under constant attack by Russian forces. “The night was difficult,” he said in the video. “The people rose up to defend their state and showed their true face. This is terror. They will bomb our Ukrainian cities even more. They will kill our children even more insidiously. “This is an evil that has come to our earth and must be destroyed.”
Zelensky went on to detail his contacts with various world leaders, including the Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom. He said diplomacy had persuaded the EU to cut off Russia from shifting the SWIFT payment system and listed the new military aid Germany had pledged to send to Ukraine.
