War in Ukraine: Guterres does not envisage peace talks soon

The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterressaid today that the time will come when they will be held peace negotiations for Ukraine, but does not see this happening in the near future.

«This war will not last forever. “The time has come for peace talks to take place,” Guterres told a news conference with Austrian President Alexander van der Belen.

«I do not see this in the near future. But I can say one thing. We will never give up “ added, according to comments translated into German by an official translator.

Peace talks with Ukraine have not stopped and are being conducted remotelyRussian Interfax news agency reported on Monday, citing statements by the head of the Russian negotiators, Vladimir Medinsky.

Moscow accuses Kyiv of delaying talks and that he uses reports of atrocities committed by Russian troops to undermine the negotiations. THE Russia denies targeting civilians in the “special military operation” it describes as being conducted in Ukraine.

Asked when live talks with the Ukrainians can take place “We need things to be more specific in order to meet in person,” Medinsky said.

As reported by ΑΠΕ – ΜΠΕ, the Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams have not held live peace talks since 29 March, although they have conversations via video link.
