For this reason, the international organization asks individuals and civil society groups providing transport and accommodation assistance, to coordinate with local protection services and facilitate recording by sharing contact information and people’s places of residence with official bodies, to enable proper supervision and protection.
IOM Director General Antonio Vitorino points out that “IOM reports show that people fleeing Ukraine “They come mainly from single-parent families, including women, children and the elderly – some of whom are unaccompanied and separated from their parents and third-country nationals.”. He adds, “These groups can be particularly vulnerable to the risk of human trafficking as they leave their homes.”

The United Nations estimates that some 300,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in western Europe since the start of the war on February 24.
