War in Ukraine: Macron-Zelensky phone call on Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

Telephone communication with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky about the situation in nuclear power plant of Zaporizhia which is under the control of the Russians in the south Ukraine French President Emmanuel Macron will have today, Tuesday (16/8).

The two leaders will communicate “mainly to talk about the situation around Zaporizhia station“, announced the French presidency.

Since late July, several artillery strikes have been reported at the plant, blamed on each other by the warring parties, raising concerns that a nuclear disaster could be triggered. The issue was discussed last week at the UN Security Council.

A “disaster” at the station would threaten the whole of Europe, warned yesterday, Monday (15/8), the Volodymyr Zelenskyaccusing the Russian military of “bombing nearby cities and communities” from the nuclear plant.

The most recent telephone communication the two leaders had was on August 1.

THE Emmanuel Macronwho has been on vacation since July 29, had expressed his satisfaction at the time at the resumption of sea shipments of grain from southern Ukraine, which had been blocked by the Russian attack.
