War in Ukraine: More and more territory under Russian control – Occupy village in Sheverodonetsk

There is no end to the losses of the Ukrainians while the war launched by the Russians. Ukraine announced today (Monday 20/6) that it has lost control of Metolkin, a village in the Sheverodonetsk region, the key city of Donbass in the eastern part of the country. Russia has been trying to bring it under its complete control for weeks.

“Unfortunately, we no longer control Metolkin,” Luhansk Governor Serhi Haydai was quoted as saying by the Athens News Agency.

With the occupation of this village, which before the war had a population of about 1,000, the Russians take another step in their advance in and around Sheverodonetsk.

Russian troops are advancing slowly into Donbass, which consists of the Luhansk and Donetsk provinces, where they are now concentrating their efforts after invading Ukraine on 24 February.

The Nitrogen chemical plant in Severodonetsk, where hundreds of civilians have taken refuge, is being “continuously” bombed by Russian forces, according to Haidai.

For his part, the mayor of Sheverodonetsk Oleksandr Stryuk said today on Ukrainian television that Moscow controls most of the residential areas of the city.

“If we talk about the whole city, more than a third is controlled by our armed forces. “The Russians are in control of the rest.”

“Street fights are raging 24 hours a dayHe added that Ukrainian forces were regularly bombed.

After all, it has been impossible for many days to evacuate civilians from Sheverodonetsk, since the last bridge connecting the city with its neighbor Lisichansk was destroyed.

Pro-Russian separatists, meanwhile, said they had captured another village near Severodonetsk, on the main, southern road leading to the city.

Vitaly Kiselev, an adviser to the interior minister of the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Luhansk, said her army had captured the village of Toskivka, 25 kilometers south of Sheverodonetsk.

Haidai said pro-Russian forces were trying to break through the lines and enter Toskivka, while the Ukrainian army’s general staff announced yesterday that Ukrainian forces had pushed the Russians out of the village as well as others near Sheverodonetsk.
