War in Ukraine: Moscow rejects Italian peace plan

LAST UPDATE: 15.23

Moscow has rejected Italy’s peace plan for Ukraine through Russian Security Council Vice President Dmitry Medvedev, according to a report in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica today.

According to Medvedev, “this plan is detached from reality” and whoever drafted it “seems to have relied on provincial press reports and Ukrainian lies.”

The former Russian president added that “the proposed full autonomy of Crimea from Ukraine would definitely be a cause of war.”

Finally, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio stressed today that “in the light of developments in Ukraine, a new impetus must be given to the EU enlargement process to the Western Balkans.”
