The peace talks with the Ukraine have not stopped and carried out remotely, the Russian Interfax news agency reported, citing today’s statements by the head of the Russian negotiators, Vladimir Medinsky.
Moscow accuses Kyiv of delaying talks and that he uses reports of atrocities committed by Russian troops to undermine the negotiations. THE Russia denies targeting civilians in the “special military operation” it describes as being conducted in Ukraine.
Asked when live talks with the Ukrainians can take place “We need things to be more specific in order to meet in person,” Medinsky said.
As reported by ΑΠΕ – ΜΠΕ, the Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams have not held live peace talks since 29 March, although they have conversations via video link.
The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskysaid last month that there was a high risk of the talks ending, blaming public outrage over what he said were horrific acts perpetrated by Russian forces as they withdrew from parts of northern Ukraine around Kyiv.
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, describes Moscow’s actions as a “special military operation” aimed at disarming Ukraine, defending Russian-speaking people from persecution and preventing the United States and its allies from using the country to threaten Russia.
Ukraine denies Putin’s allegations of persecution and denies that Ukraine or Western countries pose any threat to Russia.
