Negotiations with the Russian side for the exchange of 169 soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine who were captured at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant are underway, according to Ukrainian officials.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine made the announcement through the Telegram application, citing the Minister of Internal Affairs of the country, Denis Monastirsky.
“Chernobyl is a tragic page in our history. “Unfortunately, we have to say that 169 soldiers of the National Guard were taken prisoner there,” he said. We went to the place where he was being held. A basement without light, without the ability to communicate normally. They were deprived of all means of communication while they were there. Then they transferred them. “Unfortunately, I do not know what their fate is,” Monastirski said.
He revealed that “negotiations are underway in order to exchange them, but we understand that such a thing is likely to happen only after the end of the active phase of hostilities,” concluded the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
