THE German chancellor, Olaf Soltsonce again refrained from announcing his visit to Kyiv, stressing that such a trip “May not be just a photo opportunity” while expressing his strong concern for its development war in Ukrainefollowing a recent telephone conversation with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
«I’m not going to join a group of people going in and out for a photo. “When I do, it’s going to be very specific and it has to be well prepared – and we’re working on that,” Soltz said in a televised public debate hosted by the private RTL station.
Responding to the comment of one of the citizens, who considers, as he said, the symbolism, e.g. of reopening of the German embassy in Kyiv “I do not underestimate anything, but I am in favor of a serious policy,” she said. “We will take the right decisions step by step,” he said.
Asked about his communication with the Russian president, Solz admitted that He is particularly concerned about the course of the war, as he did not see any change, he said on the part of Vladimir Putin. “In order for the war to end, Russia must make the decision to reach an agreement with Ukraine, and so far there is no indication that the Russian side has realized that this situation must end as soon as possible,” he said.
What they discussed with Volodymyr Zelensky
Olaf Solz discussed the military and humanitarian situation in Ukraine by Volodymyr Zelensky during their telephone conversation, a spokesman for the chancellor said.
“They agreed that a negotiated settlement between Ukraine and Russia would require an immediate end to hostilities on the part of Russia and the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine,” the chancellor said in a statement.
The two leaders also discussed ways to support Ukraine and agreed to remain in touch, he added.
