Russian paramilitary group Wagner has begun construction of a reinforced defense line in Luhansk province in eastern Ukrainewhich Russia annexed in September, its founder Yevgeny Prigozhin announced today.
“A fortification complex is under construction on the line of contact, commonly called the ‘Wagner line,'” the Russian businessman close to the Kremlin said on his Concord company’s social media.
According to him, “it is a defense on many levels”, however he did not give details about the length of this line, the exact point where it is located or the time it will take to build it.
The 61-year-old Prigozhin estimated, however, that this line of defense will not be “necessary” to stop the march of the Ukrainian army, as “just the presence of the Wagner units on the front line is already an impenetrable wall.”
“Putin’s Cook”
At the end of September, Prigozhin admitted that he founded, in 2014, the Wagner paramilitary organization to fight in Ukraine and confessed its activity in Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
The Wagner paramilitary organization has for years been seen as carrying out the Kremlin’s dirty work underground in various theaters of operations, a fact that the Moscow denies.
Yevgeny Prigozhin began his “career” as a supplier to the Kremlin kitchen, an activity that earned him the nickname “Putin’s cook.”
