War in Ukraine: Rockets in Sheverodonetsk – Buildings and shopping mall hit

Shortly afterwards, Sergi Gaidai, the governor of the Luhansk region, where Sheverodonetsk is located, announced via Telegram that a total of ten buildings, a shopping mall and neighboring garages were hit, causing a large fire. “These are by no means strategic or military installations,” he said, adding that the “registration of victims” was “ongoing.”

Sheverodonetsk, an industrial city with a population of 100,000 before the war, is located very close to the front line, near the “borders” of pro-Russian, separatist territories.

The Russian military has announced it will focus its operations in eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian government earlier called on residents of the eastern regions to leave “now” because they may be trapped by the fighting in the coming days. A UN humanitarian convoy of eight trucks arrived in Severodonetsk on Tuesday, carrying food, flour and blankets for about 17,000 people, as well as four generators for the city’s hospitals.

One person was killed and five others were injured in the bombing of the neighboring town of Rubizne yesterday, while seven others were pulled alive from the rubble, Gaidai said in a post on social media.
