War in Ukraine: Russia accuses Ukrainians of ‘godless’ raid on Kiev Orthodox monastery

It is directed against Ukraine Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs calling it “godless”, “barbaric” and “immoral” for the raid carried out by the Ukrainian security service on an old Orthodox Christian monastery of Kiev.

Ukraine’s SBU security service and police raided the monastery complex of the Lavra of the Caves in Kyiv yesterday, Tuesday morning, as part of operations to counter suspected “subversive activities by Russian special services,” the SBU said.

The monastery is a cultural treasure Ukrainian and the seat of the Russian-backed wing of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the Moscow Patriarchate.

The representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova he pointed out, as reported by the Athens News Agency, that there was no justification for the raid and compared the “Kiev regime” to Bacchus, the mythological god of wine, whose name is often associated in the Russian language with immorality, chaos and spree

“It’s just some kind of completely godless Bacchic manifestation. There is no justification or explanation for this. And there cannot be”Zakharova told Sputnik radio station.

“It is another part of the absolutely immoral and savage actions of the Kiev regime,” he added.

The Russian Orthodox Church had argued yesterday, Tuesday, that the investigation was an “act of intimidation”.
