Its intention to retaliate against Japan after imposition of sanctions by Tokyo on Moscow Russia announced on Monday (27/6) about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Japan has sided with the West by imposing an unprecedented package of sanctions on Russia in the four months since Russia began war in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, as reported by the Athens News Agency, announced earlier today Tokyo’s latest moves, including a ban on imports of Russian gold, a new freeze on assets and export bans on a number of private individuals and companies.
The Russian ambassador to Japan criticized Tokyo’s move, accusing it of damaging relations between the two countries.
Russia describes the Japanese sanctions as “short-sighted”
The sanctions “They are short-sighted and affect Japan itself, especially the business community,” Mikhail Galuzhin said in a statement posted on the Russian embassy’s Facebook page.
“Obviously, such an escalation of the hostile policy towards Russia will be taken into account for our future approach to Japan and will be answered,” he wrote.
Russia has responded to harsh Western sanctions with a series of retaliations, including bans on journalists, politicians and businessmen from the United States, Britain and Canada.
