War in Ukraine: Russian Armed Forces admit death of 1,351 soldiers

Russia today acknowledged the deaths of 1,351 troops since the start of hostilities. its attack on Ukrainea month ago, accusing Western countries of making a “mistake” by supplying weapons to Kyiv.

“During the special military operation, 1,351 soldiers were killed and 3,852 were injured,” Sergei Rudskoi, the country’s deputy chief of staff, told a news conference.

A previous official report from Moscow on March 2 said 498 Russian soldiers had been killed in Ukraine. Kyiv, for its part, is talking about much heavier losses in the ranks of the Russian armed forces.

Rudinsky also described the supply of weapons to Kyiv from Western countries as a “big mistake”.

“This prolongs the conflict, increases the number of victims and will not affect the outcome of the operation at all,” he said.

He added that Russia would “respond accordingly” if NATO applied a no-fly zone over Ukraine, something Kyiv has been unsuccessfully asking for for weeks.

Russia, meanwhile, has welcomed 419,736 refugees from eastern Ukraine since the start of operations, according to Mikhail Mizintsev, director of Russia’s National Defense Management Center, who spoke at the same press conference.

“The Russian military will continue to conduct this special military operation until all objectives are met,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konachenkov.
