War in Ukraine: Russian forces continue military operations in Donetsk

Donetsk, Ukraine continues to be in the midst of major military clashes, as Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced today (12.3.2023) that its military forces are still conducting military operations in the eastern region of the city.

In fact, the Ministry of Defense claimed that Russian soldiers killed more than 220 Ukrainians soldiers in the last 24 hours in Donetsk.

“More than 220 Ukrainian soldiers were killed. An infantry fighting vehicle, 3 armored fighting vehicles, 7 other vehicles, as well as a D-30 howitzer were destroyed during the day,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Reuters was unable to independently confirm the Russian Defense Ministry’s claim.

Ukraine and Russia claim to have caused significant casualties on both sides and are difficult to confirm the numbers they announce.

Ukraine announced yesterday (11.3.2023) that more than 500 Russian soldiers were killed or wounded in the previous 24 hours as they fought for control of the city of Bahamut.

Russian forces, as well as mercenary groups of the Wagner company, occupied areas in the eastern part of the city, as well as suburbs on its northern and southern sides, but they have so far not managed to completely surround it.

Moscow says that the capture of Bakhmut will deal a blow to Ukraine’s defenses and will be a step towards the total capture of the industrial region of Donbass, which is a major target of Russian military forces.
