Two Russian missiles hit the city center of Kharkiv in the northeast Ukraine on Sunday morning, with local officials reporting that one fell into a residential building.
“A residential building in the city center was affected. A fire broke out. So far it is known that there are three victims: a 54-year-old woman and two men aged 51 and 55.Kharkiv Oblast governor Oleh Sinekhubov wrote on the Telegram messaging platform.
Reuters was unable to independently confirm the information.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Luhansk region, Serhii Haidai, said that Ukrainian forces were maintaining control of the village of Bilohorivka, adding that the situation there was tense but under control.
“Information is spreading in the Russian Federation about the alleged occupation of Bilohorivka and the removal of our people from there”Haidai said speaking on Ukrainian television.
“Our troops remain in their positions, no one has captured Bilohorivka, no one had entered there, there is no enemy there”he added.
Some Moscow-appointed officials and pro-Russian military bloggers had recently claimed that the Russians were advancing in the direction of Bilohorivka, the last part of Luhansk region controlled by Ukrainian forces.
“The situation on the front is tense, but it is controlled by Ukrainian forces”Haidai said.
“The number of Russian attacks has increased, but all of them have been repulsed by our troops, who remain in their positions.”he added, while Reuters notes again that it is unable to confirm the information from an independent img.
In addition, the head of the Russian private militia Wagner said today that heavy fighting continues in the northern parts of the city of Bakhmut, which has been the focus of Russian forces’ attention for weeks.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder and head of Wagner, said his soldiers are “fighting for every street, every house, every stairwell” against Ukrainian forces who are not backing down.
