War in Ukraine: Russian ship carrying grain sailed from Turkish port

A Russian-flagged cargo ship named “Zhibek Zholy” and for which there were suspicions that he was carrying stolen Ukrainian grainset sail late yesterday evening, Wednesday, from the northwestern Turkish port of Karasou, according to data from ship tracking service Refinitiv.

On Sunday, its ambassador Ukrainian in Turkey had stated that the Turkish authorities arrested the ship. Reuters had earlier reported that Ukraine had asked Turkey to seize the ship.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry, according to the Athens News Agency, rejected as false the information that the ship has been seized by the Turkish authorities.

Kyiv has accused Moscow of stealing grain from territories seized by Russian forces after they invaded the country in late February.

The Kremlin, which calls the invasion a “special military operation”, has previously denied that Russia has stolen Ukrainian grain.
