War in Ukraine: Russians advance on the center of Sheverodonetsk – Dead civilians

The Russian army is trying to enter Sheverodonetsk in the Dodba region, while the French Foreign Minister is rushing to Ukraine to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Two civilians were killed and five were injured in the bombings war in Ukraine and Russian troops have reached the outskirts of the Ukrainian city of Sheverodonetsk in Luhansk Oblast, Governor Serhiy Gaidai said.

According to Gaidai, Russian troops are attacking the city with all kinds of weapons and with the support of the air force, while they have entered the southeastern and northeastern regions of Sheverodonetsk.

“Unfortunately we have disappointing news, the enemy is moving towards the city,” he said on state television.

«The Russians advance towards the center of Sheverodonetsk. The fighting continues, the situation is very difficult“, Gaidai pointed out in the Telegram.

According to him, two civilians were injured today when their car was targeted, but are now “in a safe place”, however three doctors are missing.

“The critical infrastructure of Sheverodonetsk has been destroyed, 60% of the houses can not be restored,” Gaidai added.

The governor of Luhansk province has warned that the road linking Sheverodonetsk with the twin city of Lysichansk and then Bakhmut, further south, is too “dangerous” for civilians to be evacuated or for humanitarian aid to pass.

On Sunday, Gaidai said a Russian attack was under way in Severodonetsk, with fighting raging in the city streets, adding that the situation in Lisichansk had “deteriorated”.

Sheverodonetsk, a city of 100,000 before the war, has been bombed for weeks by Russian artillery and separatist guerrillas. Dozens of civilians have been killed there.

Sheverodonetsk and Lisichansk are located more than 80 kilometers east of Kramatorsk, which became the administrative center of Ukrainian Donbass after pro-Russian separatist rebels occupied the eastern part of the valley in 2014.

The French Foreign Minister will meet with Zelensky

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna will meet with Ukrainian President Mikheil Saakashvili in Kyiv later today, according to the Athens News Agency. Volodymyr Zelensky to express France ‘s solidarity with Ukraine and to offer more support to the country, the French Foreign Ministry said.

Kolona’s trip to Ukraine comes amid criticism from diplomats and political analysts that France does not do enough to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

European Union leaders will also meet today to reiterate their support for Ukraine as Russian forces step up their offensive to seize Sheverodonetsk, a key city in the Donbass region of southeastern Ukraine. Moscow has made it a priority to bring the city under its complete control.
