War in Ukraine: Russians discouraged by Ukrainian resistance – What the Pentagon supports

Russian forces are increasingly discouraged by what the United States believes is a viable and very decisive Ukrainian resistance, while Moscow is involving more and more troops in its invasion, a senior Pentagon official said on Saturday.

The official, who asked not to be named, also said it appeared that the Russian commanders had not foreseen fuel adequacy or basic logistical support and were now trying to adjust.

“We estimate that more than 50% of the power that Putin has amassed against Ukraine (…) is now involved,” the senior US official said, adding: but I will not be more specific. “

“We also continue to see signs of a viable Ukrainian resistance,” he said, adding that “the Russians are becoming increasingly discouraged as they lose momentum in the last 24 hours, especially in northern Ukraine.”

According to him, by Saturday afternoon, the Russian armed forces had fired more than 250 missiles at targets in Ukraine. Most were short-range missiles, the official said.

Contrary to Russian claims, the missiles “undoubtedly” hit “political infrastructure and residential areas,” he added.

Britain: Obstacles to Russian advance

Russia’s advance on Ukraine has temporarily slowed, possibly due to logistical problems and strong resistance, the Pentagon said earlier, following intelligence reports.

He added, however, that the Russian target remains Kiev: “Russian forces are passing very large densely populated centers, leaving behind the forces to encircle and isolate them. The overnight clashes in Kiev may have involved limited forces of Russian units that had already taken up positions. “The occupation of Kiev remains Russia’s primary military goal.”
