Russia launched a drone strike against Kiev overnight, its authorities announced today Ukrainianjust hours before the start of a crucial NATO summit, the central issue of which will be support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
“The enemy attacked Kiev from the air for the second time this month”the military administration of the Ukrainian capital pointed out on its Telegram account, underlining that the attack caused minor material damage.
The attack was launched from the south by Iranian-made Shahed drones, he added, possibly from Russia’s Krasnodar region.
“All aerial targets detected while heading towards Kiev were destroyed by our anti-aircraft defense forces and means”the same source noted, without specifying the number of drones shot down.
For its part, the Ukrainian Ministry of the Interior announced that debris was found in the Kyiv region. “Windows and exterior buildings of private homes were damaged,” he explained.
The port city of Odessa, in southern Ukraine, was also targeted by drone attacks overnight, said Serhii Brachuk, a local administration official. Air defenses have been activated, he added without elaborating.
An anti-aircraft alert was sounded in Mykolayiv, Kherson, Kirovograd, Poltava, Sumy and Kharkiv provinces.
