The Russian army is advancing near the town of Vugledarnew frontal hot spot in the east Ukrainewhere Moscow has intensified its attack, said today head of pro-Russian Donetsk separatistsDenis Pusilin.
“Our units continue to advance (…). “Units have reached the eastern part of Vugledar and their work continues in the outskirts,” said Pushilin, quoted by Russian news agencies.
According to him, the Ukrainian army “had time to establish itself” in this sector which has “a large number of industrial facilities and tall buildings” which facilitates defense operations.
“So we assume that the enemy will resist,” continued Pussin, who refused to predict how long the fighting for the city would last.
As reported by APE-MPE, Bougledarda mining town with a population of 15,000 before the Russian attack, is 150 kilometers south of Bakhmut, another hot spot on the eastern front, which the Russian military has been seeking to capture for more than 6 months at the cost of heavy casualties .
Pushilin clarified today that “fierce fighting” is taking place near Bakhmut and that it is “too early” to talk about encircling the city by Russian troops.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday, Sunday, that Bakhmut, Vugledar and other areas of the Donetsk region are under “continuous Russian attacks”.
The Kremlin has vowed to conquer the entire Donetsk region after announcing in September its annexation along with three other Ukrainian regions (Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhia).
