Independent experts broadcast SOS for their safety nuclear installations of Ukraine in the middle of Russian invasion.
As reported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), rockets hit a nuclear waste site in Kiev, as well as an electronic transformer at a similar facility in Kharkov.
“Inspectors are waiting for radioactivity measurements to determine the extent of the damage,” the international body added.
In this context, the Director of the IAEA warns of the need to protect facilities with radioactive material, as any damage can have a significant impact on human health and the environment.
It should be noted that Ukraine is the second largest producer of nuclear energy in Europe, after France.
There are four plants in the country with 15 different nuclear reactors, which produce 50% of the electricity.
Russia, on the second day of the invasion, managed to take control of the blockaded area of Chernobyl, where in 1986 the tragic event of the explosion took place.
