The State Department would “welcome” the extension, beyond Sunday, of the Easter truce declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin, though the Kremlin earlier said there was no such order. Putin announced a 30 -hour truce on Saturday, on Easter, ending at midnight tonight. However, Russia and Ukraine are accused of violating it. “We saw President Putin’s announcement of a temporary ceasefire due to Easter. We remain committed to achieving complete and total truce, “said a US Foreign Ministry spokesman in a statement sent by email. He added that Washington would “welcome” her extension. The two warring countries, however, blame each other of violations of the truce. On the Russian side, the Ministry of Defense has spoken of the “fruitless efforts” of the Ukrainian army to attack Russian positions in the fields of Balka and Bagatiir in the Donetsk area.
