War in Ukraine: Top Kremlin official goes to Mariupol

Its port Mariupolwhich is almost entirely occupied by the Russian armed forces, was visited yesterday by Sergei Kiriyenko, Deputy Secretary General of the Kremlin, said the leader of the pro-Russian separatists Dennis Pushilin via Telegram.

Mr. Kiriyenko, former Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, is in charge of internal political affairs in the Russian presidency. He visited the Ilic steelworks and the port of Mariupol, according to Mr. Pushilin.

The other big steel industry in the city, Azofstal, is the last area where hostilities continue.as Ukrainian military and dozens of civilians are still stranded on the site of its vast factory.

Kiriyenko and the general secretary of President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party, Andrei Turchak, visited besides Mariupol and the city of Volnovacha, as reported by the German Agency and the Athens News Agency.

According to Dennis Pushilin, The visit of the Kremlin envoys means for the citizens of the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Danetsk that “Russia has returned here forever.”
