Two Americans seem to have been recently killed in the Notnbasaccording to what CNN revealed, citing a State Department spokesman. However, he did not provide further details about the victims or the circumstances in which they died.
He said, however, that the US government had contacted the families of the victims and offered all possible consular assistance. “Out of respect for (the victims’) families at this difficult time, we have nothing more to add.”the State Department spokesman said, according to CNN.
The Reuters agency points out that the State Department did not respond to its request (via e-mail) for comment.
The Russian army invaded almost five months ago Ukraine, with Russia speaking of a “special military operation” aimed at the “demilitarization” and “de-Naziization” of its neighboring country. Kyiv and the West stress that Moscow started an unprovoked war.
Several Americans have volunteered to fight alongside Ukrainian forces, ignoring Washington’s warnings. An American citizen, who had joined the ranks of foreign volunteer fighters, was killed in combat last May while trying to help Ukrainians repel Russian invaders.
