War in Ukraine: What is Russia’s response to the attack on the mall

A day after a Russian rocket attack on a shopping center in Kremenchuk, with 18 dead, Russia gave its own answer. The country’s Defense Ministry said it had fired rockets at a weapons depot in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk and that the munitions blast had set fire to a nearby shopping mall, which Moscow said was closed.

The G7 called it a Russian war crime.

«In Kremenchuk, Russian forces struck a weapons depot containing high-precision weapons received from the United States and Europe. “As a result of the precision strike, Western-made weapons and ammunition that were stored in the warehouse were hit.” reports the Russian Ministry of Defense in a statement published through its channel in the Telegram. “The explosion of stored ammunition for western weapons caused a fire in a shopping center next to the warehouse, which was not working,” he added.

The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that the mall was hit directly by Russian missiles and about 1,000 people were inside it at the time of the strike.
