War in Ukraine: Zelensky again calls on Russian troops to lay down their arms

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyin a new sermon sent a message to the Russian soldiers to lay down their arms telling them that “This is not your war”.

“Every Russian soldier who lays down his arms will have a chance, a chance to survive. I address in particular to you heirs who threw you into the fire of this war. “This is not your war,” he said. “It’s better than losing your life on the battlefield, here on earth.”

He claimed that since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24, about 1,000 Russian soldiers have been captured.

President Zelensky also reiterated his position on Ukraine’s negotiations with Russia. “My priorities in the negotiations are very clear: the end of the war, security guarantees, sovereignty of the country, real guarantees for our country, real protection for our country.”

Negotiations between the two sides continued yesterday (16/3) but expectations are very limited to reach an immediate agreement on a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky is expected to address the Bundestag, the German lower house, today, a day after speaking to members of the US Congress. At the same time, discussions are underway, according to diplomatic sources, on the possibility of Mr. Zelensky addressing the UN General Assembly.
