War in Ukraine: Zelensky speaks with Belarusian leader after Russian ultimatum

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a Telegram message today that he had spoken with Belarussian leader Alexander Lukashenko after Kiev refused to hold talks in Minskaccusing it of allowing Russian troops to cross its territory.

Zelenski has not yet given more details about the telephone communication, as broadcast by international agencies and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

Preceded the Russian ultimatum in Kiev, with Moscow giving a deadline to Ukraine until 16:00 (Greek time) to respond to its proposal to start negotiations in Belarus on ending the war.

The number of refugees from Ukraine has reached 368,000 and continues to grow

In the meantime, the 368,000 reached refugees who fled to escape the fighting in Ukraine after the start of the Russian invasion on Thursday, fleeing to neighboring countries and their number “continues to grow”, became known today by the United Nations.

This number “is based on data provided by the host countries’ authorities,” the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a tweet.

A very large number of them have gone to Poland, where the authorities count about 156,000 Ukrainians who have arrived there since Thursday, the beginning of the invasion by Russian troops.

Yesterday, border guards reported that they counted 77,300 people who arrived in Poland from Ukraine.
