War is a cold shower in global economic recovery, says economist

The war in Ukraine is a “cold shower on the international market, which was still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic crisis”, in the assessment of economist, Insper professor and CEO of Siegen, Fábio Astrauskas.

in interview to CNN Radiothe expert explained that the war spread through the countries in “strongly economic actions”, with the advent of sanctions and also with the “gigantic problem of the refugee situation”.

“The rest of the world will see an impact on the economy, either in the increase in the price of commodities, especially in energy and food, as Russia is strong in these two items, and also in the logistics part, an area affected by maritime, land and air restrictions. ”, he evaluated.

The professor said he considers war to be a game of chess. “The three initial moves are predictable, then the complexity is high, each game becomes unique, it’s not just Russia versus Ukraine, it’s a world conflict.”

“If the war continues, it will have unforeseen consequences. We are going to see an increase in commodities and oil, but here in Brazil it will also have an impact on natural gas and fertilizers”, he added.

According to the economist, Russian President Vladimir Putin will deal with three battle fronts: war in the traditional and economic spheres and, in a few weeks, with an “internal movement of dissatisfaction by society and the population”.
