War is not limited to the battlefield, but also a diplomatic game, says expert

War is not limited to the battlefield, it is also linked to the diplomatic game, political science master Natali Hoff told CNNthis Saturday (5), in an analysis of the crisis unleashed in Ukraine after the invasion of Russia.

For the expert, the intervention of world leaders in the conflict often amplifies the tension instead of calling those involved to dialogue and the search for solutions. “They tend to energize this conflict more, fostering continuity, rather than a call to dialogue,” she said.

The political scientist said that tension, like other wars, is also linked to the political game, which causes humanitarian injustices.

“A very important issue of international relations is that every war takes place from a military point of view, with the use of force, but it also takes place in the diplomatic field. No war is fair from a humanitarian point of view, but usually wars involve some sort of political objective, so it’s not restricted to the battlefield, it also ties into the diplomatic game,” he said.

She points out that the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, is increasingly seeking more direct support from the great leaders, however, Natali reiterates the improbability of a more incisive support.

“Right now, we feel that Zelensky has been asking more and more emphatically for this more direct support, especially from NATO, but this is unlikely to materialize, especially in the short term, due to all the risks and the strategic calculation that needs to be done. These factors will probably continue to act in the diplomatic and logistical field of the conflict, but the question that remains is how much this type of support can be, in fact, effective”.
