War on Urania: Putin-Zelensky meeting could take place in Istanbul, Erdogan says

In statements after Friday prayers, the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressed the hope that a Putin-Zelensky summit could lead to an end to the war in Ukraine. Erdoγan expressed his desire to host a meeting of the two leaders in Istanbul, stressing that “Mr. Zelenski is as positive as Mr. Putin had approached the proposal positively in the past. “I hope that after today’s phone call, the date will be set by them,” he noted.

“If we can hold such a summit in Istanbul and finally decide to turn this negative trend into a positive one with the two leaders, we, as Turkey, will be very happy about it,” Erdogan said.

The phone call to Putin

The President of Turkey stated that will tell Vladimir Putin during the telephone conversation they will have later today that he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must make an effort to address the issues of the Donbass region and Crimea.

Addressing reporters in Istanbul, Erdogan said the phone call with Putin would be made at 4pm (Turkish-Greek time) and that he would renew his offer to host peace talks between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia in favor of which was ordered by Volodymyr Zelensky during his conversation with the Turkish president yesterday.

Earlier, Ukraine’s foreign minister said his country would be grateful to Turkey if it helped organize the Zelensky-Putin meeting.
