War scene in RS: Arroio do Meio has destroyed houses and cars, mud and rubble in the streets

After the flood level dropped in the city of Arroio do Meio, in the Taquari Valley, in Rio Grande do Sul, the scenario that remained resembled war, revealing the complete destruction caused by the force of the waters, as residents classified it.

City devastated

The images show tree branches, construction debris and mud covering the streets. Houses were completely destroyed and cars that were swept away by the flood are scattered and broken down in the middle of the paths.

According to reports, the people who lived on the banks of the river lost practically everything. The municipality had its access blocked after the collapse of the bridges connecting it with the neighboring city of Lajeado.

Basic services interrupted

According to information from the local city hall, 90% of the population of Arroio do Meio was left without access to basic services, such as water and electricity supply, as a result of the devastating flood.

Local authorities are committed to restoring essential services and providing assistance to homeless families. Reconstruction of the city will be a challenge after such destruction caused by heavy rains and floods in the region.
