The economist and professor at Universidade Estácio, Marcelo Pereira, defended, in an interview with CNN Rádio, that the effects of the war in Ukraine on the world economy “will be harmful.”
“The world economy is already affected by the pandemic, we have businesses that have closed down, many people have lost jobs and oil prices that have already been rising”, he explained.
In the economist’s assessment, “the effects will be devastating not only for oil, but for all commodities, such as wheat, grains, corn and ore, which will be affected in full.”
Marcelo Pereira also assessed that sanctions from countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union on Russia also affect those who apply them.
“The sanctions package softened the expectations of markets and investors, but did not solve it, there is no deadline for the end of this conflict and sanctions are two-way.”
On the one hand, there are Russia and China and, on the other, the NATO countries. The expert points out, however, that “the entire production plant in the world is located in China and all commodities come from the BRICS.”
“China’s role comes to give Russia financial breath, and establishes greater uncertainty of the final date of combat, we have sanctions that China may place on other countries, in this happening, in solidarity with the alliance it has, the war question with NATO could get worse”.
